What are the idle animations and how do I change them?

Idle animations run when SimHub is open but you are not in a session, so on the desktop or in menus. Each device has its own Idle Mode or Idle RPMs tab.

The animations are: DNR Wave, Breathe, Sweep, Bounce, Comet, Fill and Drain, Centre Out, Theatre Chase, Alternate, Twinkle, Wipe, Solid and Colour Fade.

Alongside the animation you can set:

• Idle Animation Total Time, which sets the speed
• Run It Backwards, which reverses the direction
• Brightness for idle separately from racing
• A Colour Theme, or Custom with Colour 1 and Colour 2

There is a live PREVIEW so you can see it before committing.

The animation, its colours, its direction and its size belong to the device selected at the top of the page, so each device can idle differently. Only Idle Animation Total Time, the duration, is universal across all DNR devices, so they animate in step rather than drifting apart.

If you switch idle off for a device and it keeps animating, that device is running a profile with its own animation baked in, which is common on branded wheel profiles. The plugin greys out the controls a profile does not read.

Steering wheels and button boxes work differently: their Idle Theme tab has an Idle Animation line under the theme bar with a Style, a Speed and an Unlit buttons choice, and the animation dims and brightens the theme's own colours rather than bringing colours of its own. Since plugin 7.2 a wheel's rev lights are part of the wheel's idle animation: while the wheel's Idle Theme switch is on they follow the wheel, each in the colour of the nearest button, and the Idle RPMs tab on the RPM Telemetry page greys out for the wheel's own device with a card saying This rev bar belongs to the wheel Idle Theme; a dash or DDU beside the wheel keeps its own RPM idle animation. With the wheel's Idle Theme switched off the whole wheel is dark while parked, rev lights included. Flag boxes have their own Idle Screen options instead.
